As you look towards the summer months, we would like to extend some advice that will assist your child in their musical development / continued interest. It is important that students continue to play and practice over the summer. Musical skills are rapidly lost among young musicians if practice is neglected. One of the best ways to encourage musical growth and interest is to obtain private lessons for your child over the summer months. One on one attention from a quality teacher specializing on your child’s instrument will prove invaluable as they continue to develop as musicians. The band has an extensive list of local instructors that we encourage you or your child to look into. Names and numbers of these instructors are posted for parent and student convenience in the band room. Feel free to drop by, or you can have your child to copy the information for you. If lessons are not feasible, consistent student practice should hold their current skill level.
The Mabry Band Family is a fun and safe place in which to grow and learn both music and important life-skills. Instrumental music will continue to enhance your child’s academic education as well as develop positive self-discipline that will serve them well in all future endeavors. We look forward to the fall semester and hope you have a relaxing summer with your family.

Seating is limited in the theater, and we want to make sure there is adequate seating for families hearing their child perform. ]]>Students will be granted a make-up audition on an individual basis according to geographic region. If, for example, you live in extreme north Georgia, we will have the make-up tryout in a school north of Atlanta. Exact location will be determined based on your home school and the school of the judge who listened to your student’s panel on Saturday. It will be the responsibility
]]> of the family requesting the make-up audition to meet the scheduled time and report to the scheduled audition make-up site. In the body, please include your student’s name, school, and instrument. Ms. Saile will then contact the appropriate judges and will select a location for the make-up based on your school location and the judge’s school locations.
ALL MAKE-UP AUDITIONS MUST BE COMPLETED BY SATURDAY FEB. 2, 2008.
In order to expedite the process for those who did take the tryout, and to assist them in making arrangements for Savannah, we will go ahead and select the two middle school bands based on the minimum instrumentation guidelines in the GMEA handbook. Following the make-up tryouts, any additional students who are above the existing cutoff scores will be added into their appropriate sections of the band. NO STUDENT WHO IS PLACED IN A BAND BASED ON THE ORIGINAL AUDITION RESULTS WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE BANDS. We will name alternate members after the make-up auditions are complete.
Once again, thank you to everyone who remained calm and cooperative as we tried to make the best of a potential “no-win” situation. Special thanks to the organizers and evaluators who worked straight through a seven hour audition process with minimal breaks.

Please join us at the Campus of Kennesaw State University on Thursday, Dec. 13th for a preview of our Midwest Performance. Dr. Brian Bowman, one of the world's most respected euphonium players will be a soloist with the band. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30. Harrison High School, also performing at Midwest, will perform at 8:15 and you are invited to hear them as well. Admission is free and the concert will be held at the Bobbie Bailey Performing Arts Center on campus.
